As an artist, you constantly walk a fine line between rigidity and failure. With “Blätterwald” Rask goes all out and shoots his latest work into circulation in cooperation with 360 Grad Records, the legendary label around the Heidelberg hip-hop pioneers Torch & Toni-L.
Blatterwald closes the circle from the first beginnings to the finished life's work of the Cologne-Münster rap veteran. In 17 play stations, the 40-year-old presents a distillation of his world of thoughts between reminiscences of the past, personal assessment of the present and love for hip-hop. A forest of leaves symbolizes a box full of pieces of paper, textbooks and writing pads at the back of the wardrobe. Hundreds of pages filled with thoughts, ideas, rhymes, texts, sketches, drafts, fragments. Collected, sorted, archived, forgotten, rediscovered over decades.
With lyrics full of intricate rhymes and cross-references, the album breathes classic hip-hop spirit in every second. The sound also underlines this: uncompromisingly clattering drums, whipping snares, massive basslines and crackling samples lead the way - finely seasoned with lovingly selected cuts.
