Everyone knows that rappers need beats, but while most of them work with sampled breaks or drum composers, the use of live drums is rather rare.
DJ Haitian Star who is known for his inventive concept mixtapes (Italo Mix & German 80ies Funk) has selected his 60 favorite rap songs on this topic from his 12,000 vinyl collection and mixed them together for the new release.
DroppingRhymes on Drums ”can be taken literally here. Most of the recordings are from the 80s and 90s, but those born after 2000 have also been taken into account. The 1 hour mix is rounded off, as always, with many “shouts” from the original artists. In addition, the respective drummers were explicitly highlighted in the track list in order to honor them accordingly. The mix is available as a high-quality digipack CD and tape.
